Stop Those Office Distractions

posted by steve in Business Advice

By Steve Hill

The Enigin office buzzes with highly interactive people.

Enigin’s technical bods, creatives, marketing men, web developers, Pas, and Directors, plus they are always interrupting me — generally for valid work reasons but sometimes just to chat.

For whatever reason they are welcome but they’re distracting, and their needs are often a far lower priority than what I need to work on at that precise moment.

Running and Energy Efficient Project

posted by steve in Business Advice

You may wonder, “Where should I start?”

Do I replace one piece of equipment or system at a time? Or, should I do a comprehensive upgrade of my entire facility?

The answer will vary depending on each individual business’ situation. The age of your current equipment and facility systems, your type of business, your local utility rates, your hours of operation, and your access to capital are all key factors in what level of upgrade makes business sense.

This is the Time to Act - Enigin Energy Saving Tips

posted by steve in Energy Saving

IN the northern hemisphere now is the time to act to save energy in the winter.

We tend to consider how much our air-con will be working as the days get warmer, and this should not be forgotten but hopefully we acted awhile ago to either replace an old inefficient unit or have an intelligent air-con controller fitter, before actually needed it so that when we switch the unit on it is not swallowing loads of money.

Energy Saving Tips

An office and home energy audit is the first step to understanding how much energy is consumed.

Proper energy management will keep all systems running efficiently. An energy audit of electrical heating and cooling includes checking insulation, draft stopping, windows and doors, as well as the overall envelope of the home.

This assessment will determine the efficiency of the heating and cooling system and how to conserve energy. Corrections in the systems will save homeowners time and money.

How to conduct an energy audit

If you’re serious about lowering your carbon footprint by reducing the energy you use at home or at work (as well as saving money), then the best thing you can do it conduct what’s known as an energy audit.

What an Energy Audit Does

What are these Carbon Emissions you read about?

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a gas emitted into the atmosphere from many sources but the area that causes concern is the CO2 emitted as a result of burning fossil fuels.

Through photosynthesis plants and organic matter removes the CO2 from the atmosphere and the carbon helps to make sugars, which may either be consumed in respiration or used as the raw material to produce other organic compounds needed for plant growth and development, the Oxygen part of the CO2 is returned to the atmosphere. When the plants are burnt, either as plants or as fossil fuels, the CO2 is released back into the atmosphere.

Particularly since the onset of the industrial revolution there has been an ever growing imbalance between the CO2 the plants and organic matter of the earth can deal with and the amount still within the atmosphere. But, because industry and our lifestyle now depend on fossil fuels the balance has tipped causing an excessive amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Enigin Connect To The World

posted by steve in Business Advice

Here at Enigin we realise how important networking is - nothing revolutionary in that thought.

Businesses have realised that networking is vital since the first trade or barter. If you wish to grow your business you need to connect with people who need and want your services.

The problem is often people do not know they need your business as they do not know you exist - hence they do not know they want it!

“Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door” is plainly untrue - they need to know where that door is and they need to know you have invented a better mousetrap, hence the need for marketing and networking.
